Book review: Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, by David Sedaris

Telling stories about animals as allegories for human life isn’t a new concept, but it can still be enjoyable in the hands of a gifted writer, as Sedaris is. Being Sedaris, his twist on the stories runs in an R-rated direction, not appropriate for children.

I got a little tired at the gritty awfulness each story proved, which did not exactly make my commute uplifting. However, I appreciated the very last story: “The Grieving Owl.” In it, he did something more unusual and broke himself out of a rut.
